Black History/Black Futures Month 2026

February 13, 2026

Each February, ONA celebrates Black History/Black Futures Month and honours Black Canadians whose achievements have shaped who we are today.

This year marks three decades of Black History Month in Canada and affirms the lasting contributions of Black Canadians. Across generations, Black leadership, creativity, innovation and resilience have helped build this country, strengthened our communities and continue to shape Canada’s social, cultural and economic landscape.

Black History Month is an opportunity for all of us to learn, reflect, and engage. It is also a time to confront the realities of Canada’s history and present-day experiences, including the ongoing impacts of anti-Black racism, oppression and discrimination that Black workers and communities continue to face. As a union, we recognize that addressing these systemic barriers requires collective responsibility, meaningful action and sustained commitment—particularly within our workplaces.

As we mark 30 years of Black History Month, members across Ontario and Canada are encouraged to take part in honoring Black excellence and recognizing the everyday contributions of Black Canadians. Together, we reassert our shared responsibility to advance equity, dignity, and justice for all workers, today and for generations to come.
